Many times, your jewelry can be very nice when you buy it but changes over time. This usually happens when you do not take care of it as it should, or when you unknowingly do things you should avoid doing. This blog is to prevent all of this by telling you how to behave with your jewelry making supplies:

First, a very common issue with metal jewelry is oxidation. When you buy less expensive metals that are not stainless steel chains, silver or gold, your jewelry can oxidize. To avoid that, there are some tips you should know about:

  • Avoid direct contact between the jewelry and the skin. For example, you can prefer wearing a necklace on top of your shirt than underneath it.

  • Do not put under water or use cosmetics on it: take it off when you shower for example

  • Do not wear when you do physical activities, it’s best to take it off and then put it back once you finished

If your jewelry already started oxidizing, you can still make it up:

  • If it’s only the beginning, you can try to rub it with a cloth to stop the oxidation from the beginning

  • If it’s already started, you can use a toothbrush and paste, and rut the jewel with it.

  • If it very oxidized, you can try to dip it into a bowl of water with an aspirin (or coca cola, vinegar, lemon juice)

It your jewel is stained with grease spots; you can try:

  • Rub it with half an onion

  • If it is a stainless metal and it has sauce stains, you can dip it into a bowl filled with water and dish soap

  • Wood ash is also very effective to clean synthetic stones and wood charms, if you can find some. Simply rub your jewel with it.
