Today we will learn how you can finish a leather cord necklace.

Very simple ways exist to finish a leather cord necklace.

The first one is probably the easiest method to end a piece of cord jewelry: tying a knot. It’s just perfect for long necklaces that you just want to slip over your head. Another advantage is that you don’t even need to use a clasp when using this simple method!

And if you want to be able to adjust the length of your jewelry cord, a slip knot is a good solution, and still no clasp needed to do this.

To do that, you going to take both ends of your leather and then overlap them. Next, take one side of your leather end and simply tie a knot after wrapping it around the cord by pulling the leather through. Do the same exact thing on the other side.

Just make sure, when you tie the knot, you go through the opposite direction so it’s pointing away from the other piece.

And that’s it! you have your adjustable leather cord necklace!

Another example as to how you can finish a leather cord necklace, you can also use coil cord ends, that are basically coils of wire with a loop on one end. And that’s where you can attach a clasp.

Suitable for leather and round cords, these exists in various and sizes and metal finishes.

So, before inserting your leather cord, you can add super glue (but not necessary) and after inserting your cord in, you can use a chain nose pliers to squeeze the last loop of your coil. This will allow to secure it onto the cord and prevents it from slipping off!

Another alternative to coil cord ends is to create your own wire coil from a simple short piece of wire. If you choose this method, you’ll just need to fold over the end of your cord to create a small loop with one long end in addition of a short end. Then tightly wrap the wire around your cord to form a coil. Don’t forget to make sure it goes around the short end ! Next, trim the excess wire and just repeat the same process on the other end of your cord. To finish it, attach a jump ring to the cord loop and use it to add your clasp.

There’re many other ways to finish a leather cord necklace, including those which uses super glue on clasps, but here we’ll give you one last technique to finish your cord necklace.

So, what’s this last method exactly? It consists in attaching fold over crimp ends.

These are flat pieces of metal with a flap on two sides and posses a loop on one end, in addition of a tiny spike on the other. This last one will serve to dig into your leather cord and will secure it!

If you want to choose this technique, the first thing you have to do is adding a little glue to the inside of the fold over crimp end and insert your cord in it. Then use a flat nose pliers to squeeze the flaps over your cord, one at a time.

Don’t worry, although the shape of the fold over crimp might make you want to use it only for flat cords, you also can use it to finish round cords!
