How should you choose the perfect lock for your jewellery?

Locks come in thousands of different shapes and sizes, the most important factor being the type of material that puts the locks together. With almost every type of jewelry, a lock is used so that the jewelry is easy to put on, but would never be lost. But do you actually know how much choice there is between the different colours, sizes, shapes and styles? And how can all these possibilities be added to your collection? Many do not know as many types of locks as they might think. That is why in the blog we list the most common types of locks for you, and how you can best apply them to your creations.

Magnetic Locks:

First, there are magnetic locks. The only applicable criteria are that these locks connect to each other by the force of a magnet. Furthermore, these locks can take a huge number of sizes and shapes, applicable to different materials. For example, a magnetic lock may have rounded ends to which a steel chain can be attached. Or the lock is open at both ends where, with the help of glue, a leather cord can be attached. Not only are the types and sizes adaptable, but you can also choose from material: stainless steel, Zamak, Sterling Silver, etc.

Lanyard Locks:

Then lanyard locks. With these types of locks you should think more about sturdiness, practicality and convenience. Dog leashes, bags and key rings are common uses with this lock. This is due to the power these locks have. There is also a difference in size, the larger the lock, the sturdier the lock. This lock is therefore not very suitable for jewelry.

Carbine Locks or Hooks:

Then the perhaps most popular locks: the carbine locks or hooks. These delicate and elegant clasps are especially suitable for fine necklaces and bracelets. This lock is barely noticeable and is therefore perfect for subtly concealing steel necklaces or bracelets.

Spring Washer:

Locks as fourth spring washer. The name says it all, there is a spring in these locks that makes it open and close. Like the lobster clasps, these are elegant locks that are perfect for delicate necklaces or bracelets.

Snap-lock locks:

There are also snap-lock locks, which are just right for bracelets. The locks alone are used as an accessory to give the bracelet an extra touch. Due to the closing mechanism, the one handle folds over the other as it were, creating one of the safest and strongest locks for jewelry. The snap-lock locks are mainly applicable to flat (leather) cords.

Hook closure locks:

Then we have the following category in which hook closures, toggle closures and anchor closures can be placed. As the name hook closure suggests, the locks hook together easily to create a classic, elegant and unique look with a bracelet.

Half cuff closures:

Half cuff closures are uniquely designed closures that immediately serve as half of your bracelet. Not because they are so big, but because they are specially designed as an armand half. In addition to this lock, you can add a round leather cord for the other half: a perfect combination. The half cuff closure makes it possible to create a stylish, timeless bracelet in no time without investing a lot of time and effort.

Multi-point closures:

Then finally, a multi-point closure. Ideal if you want to connect several cords, wires or chains together. Think, for example, of a necklace that consists of several necklaces that are worn overlapping. Instead of using one lock per chain, you can connect all chains together with a lock. The same idea also works with bracelets which consist of, for example, several silk cords.
