For years, the default has been woven polyester or standard HDPE tarpaulin. They are familiar, widely available, and cheap enough to move in volume. But as retailer requirements around product performance and sustainability tighten, those materials are starting to show their limits. Polyester coatings are not fully waterproof. Standard HDPE tears and that tear spreads. Neither is recyclable in a meaningful way.

Silpaulin XF is a different kind of material.

Manufactured by Supreme Industries Limited, one of India's largest polymer processing companies, Silpaulin XF is a multilayered cross-laminated polyethylene film developed in technical collaboration with Rasmussen Polymer Development AG in Switzerland. The cross-lamination process bonds multiple layers of film criss-cross over each other using a cold-roll technique, creating a structure that is simultaneously light, flexible, and significantly stronger than any single-layer plastic film of comparable weight.

What that means in practice:
Full waterproofing, not partial. UV stabilisation throughout, not just on the surface. If a tear does occur, it stays localised and does not spread under normal conditions. The material operates in temperatures from -60°C to +70°C and has been tested for outdoor weathering by TÜV Rheinland (LGA QualiTest GmbH), one of Europe's most recognised independent testing institutes.

It is also 100% recyclable, which is no longer just a nice-to-have. Under the EU's evolving sustainability regulations and retailer initiatives like Amazon's Climate Pledge Friendly programme, recyclability is becoming a basic purchasing criterion, not a bonus.

The material is available in weights from 70 to 300 GSM and can be produced with heat-sealed joints and ultrasonically welded eyelets, making it ready for a wide range of cover applications: garden furniture sets, parasols, BBQs, loungers, hammocks, and more. Custom sizing and private-label options are available directly through the manufacturer.
